The Friends of Burley Church
is a registered charity set up in 1979 to assist the Parochial Church Council in the preservation, maintenance, repair
or improvement of the structure, fabric, furnishings and accoutrements of St. John the Baptist Church, Burley,
the Vicarage and Church Hall.
This it does mainly by
organising affordable and enjoyable social events in the village but also through the annual subscription of its
members.
You do not need to be a regular church member to be a Friend and support its functions. Indeed some of
its members just feel it is important for the village to retain an active and well preserved church building.
The
money raised by the Friends is not to cover the normal day to day running expenses of the church but our help with
maintenance does allow the church to use more of its income to provide an outreach to the community.
The Church can
apply to the Friends to assist with maintenance projects, either big or small. Funds have been used towards the
cost of the installation of a disabled person's WC and for the
refurbishment of the church hall. They have also helped towards the purchase of a new
electronic organ and most recently, paid for a completely new sound system. These grants are
much valued by the church.
The Friends is run by a small but enthusiastic committee and we would welcome new members and
new ideas.
